The biggest upset of the season is the Bulls.

Derrick Rose receives the NBA's best player award, beating out stars LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.

By Márcio Kroehn_247 - If an election were held outside the US to determine the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the American Basketball League (NBA), the winner would certainly be LeBron James of the Miami Heat or Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers. But the most celebrated players will lose the title to an underdog – at least by foreign standards. Young Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls received the award for best player of the 2010-11 season. He is the youngest MVP in NBA history. And, at 22 years old, Rose is the second Bulls player to win the trophy, repeating the feat of five-time champion Michael Jordan.

What did Rose do that was so extraordinary to surpass the league's big names in the MVP election? He simply led the Bulls to the NBA playoffs – they are in the Eastern Conference semifinals, trailing 1-0 to the Atlanta Hawks – with an impressive average of 25 points per game in 81 games. Furthermore, the Chicago Bulls achieved the longest winning streak in a season (62) since 1997-98. To top it off, Derrick Rose is the fifth player in NBA history to reach 2 points, 600 assists, and 300 rebounds in a single year. Now, he joins Oscar Robertson, John Havlicek, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James. “Derrick is having an extraordinary season for us. There are few players who work with such dedication to basketball as he does. We are very happy that the Chicago Bulls' most valuable player is also the NBA MVP,” declared Gar Forman, general manager of the Bulls.
