"The opposition is directionless," says Edmundo Galdino.

The president of the Tocantins Sanitation Agency (ATS) refers mainly to the internal disarray and conflict currently plaguing the PMDB party in the state. Senator Kátia Abreu's departure exacerbated the party's implosion and, according to the ATS president, did not have the desired effect on the government. "She thought that when she left, she would create a disarray in the government, a split, with the departure of many political leaders who would have followed her. But that didn't happen."

Tocantins 247 – From a historical adversary of Governor Siqueira Campos (PSDB) to one of his most prominent aides in the state government, the president of the Tocantins Sanitation Agency (ATS), Edmundo Galdino da Silva, 55, a former city councilor, state and federal deputy, understands the art of being in opposition. He spent most of his more than 30 years of political career in this role.

And for Edmundo Galdino, the opposition to the state government is unstructured and lacks a government plan to present to the population. “The opposition today is directionless, it has no banner, nor proposals. At this point, the opposition should already be out in action. But the vanity of some political heavyweights is speaking louder than the public interest. The infighting among them is much stronger than the interest in confronting the government,” he stated.

Galdino refers mainly to the disintegration and internal conflict that currently dominates the PMDB in the state. Senator Kátia Abreu's departure maximized the party's implosion and, according to the president of ATS, did not have the effect the congresswoman expected on the government. "She thought that when she left, she would create a disintegration in the government, a split, with the departure of many political leaders who would have accompanied her. But that didn't happen, and today the senator has already realized the mistake she made," he stated.

While the opposition remains divided, according to the president of ATS, the Araguaia Palace has been quietly gaining political strength. “The government has been gradually strengthening itself, without fanfare, and with spontaneous support. Many deputies have approached the government, mainly motivated by the way the mayors in their constituencies are being treated. The government is building perhaps the largest coalition of political forces in recent elections,” he stated.

Asked if the PP party could surprise everyone, as it did in the 2012 Palmas elections, and this time with the president of the Federation of Industries of Tocantins, Roberto Pires, stealing the show in the race for the Araguaia Palace, Edmundo Galdino said he didn't believe so. "I don't see the slightest possibility of a foreign politician or a vain businessman having any chance in an electoral contest. Palmas was an isolated event," he believes.

Eduardo as a candidate. Regarding theories about who will be the gubernatorial candidate, Edmundo Galdino believes the name will be that of former Secretary of Institutional Relations Eduardo Siqueira Campos (PTB). To make this viable, Siqueira Campos could even leave his mandate in April to run for the Senate. "A man with Siqueira's experience is prepared for any situation. Siqueira doesn't go to war with just one bullet," he concluded.
