blog do plateau - After the ceremony marking João Goulart's arrival with military honors, his son, João Vicente Goulart, assessed that the process of exhumation, examinations, and forensic analysis to determine the cause of his father's death is a first step in recovering the history of the former president and the country. For João Vicente, it is important to reflect on the basic reforms proposed by Jango.

"I think that if we want to reform the Brazilian state, to think about reforming our social security system, about agrarian reform, we have to go back to 1964 to study, to really see what 1964 was and what reforms were sent to the National Congress in 1964. I think the importance of revisiting Jango is the importance of revisiting Brazil. We have to move forward. We are taking the first big step, it will not be the last," he commented.

Rosa Maria Cardoso, who coordinated the National Truth Commission and works directly on cases involving Jango's history, stated that it is extremely important for the country to know what actually happened to the former president.

"First, it's important for the family itself, which has been searching since his death, to know the causes of his death, to understand its political significance, and also his political involvement, since the family knew that Jango was constantly monitored by representatives of intelligence and repression agencies. [...] Unraveling all of this is very important," Rosa Maria assessed.

Filmmaker Sílvio Tendler, who directed the documentary "Jango," recalled that the location of the ceremony, the Air Force Base, was the last place João Goulart visited in Brasília before traveling to Porto Alegre and then into exile. He also acknowledged the significance of honoring the former president with honors befitting a head of state.

"Almost 50 years after these events that I am narrating, that is, it will be 50 years, he returns with all the honors worthy of a head of state. He returns to receive the just tribute he deserves, in an initiative by President Dilma Rousseff, in which the other heads of state will be present, so I think justice is being done, and I can say that my film is almost ready and finished," said Silvio.
