Ceará247 - Literacy levels continue to grow in the State of Ceará. According to a performance analysis carried out by the Permanent System for the Evaluation of Basic Education (Spaece) in 2016, 86% of students in the state education network finished the 2nd year of Elementary School literate. The updated data were presented this Tuesday morning (14), at the Abolition Palace, by Governor Camilo Santana (PT) and the Secretary of Education, Idilvan Alencar.
The Space report indicates that last year, 74% of second-grade elementary school students achieved the desired level of literacy. In 2007, the year the Literacy at the Right Age Program (PAIC) began, 30% of students reached this performance level. The presentation by the Government of Ceará also emphasized a gradual reduction in the number of illiterate children in the state, noting that in 2016, 0,9% of students were illiterate, while in 2007 the figure was 32,8%.
To carry out the analysis, the Ceará State Department of Education (Seduc) system evaluated 99,2% of children in elementary school. Last year, the Ceará government invested R$ 6 million in conducting the census. Ceará maintained a positive evaluation in all municipalities at this stage of basic education for the second year in a row.
During the launch, data relating to the 5th and 9th grades of Elementary School were also presented, covering the subjects of Portuguese Language and Mathematics. The performance of the 5th grade students showed the following results: in Portuguese Language, the percentage of students at the appropriate level rose to 39%, while in 2008 the percentage was 6,8%; in Mathematics, it was 28,1%, different from the 3,6% presented in 2008.
According to Governor Camilo Santana, the work done in the area of Education in the State of Ceará is the result of a series of investments, incentives, and commitments made with educators, teachers, and students from all municipalities in Ceará. "This educational work is a permanent agreement for progress and improvements, discussed between the states and municipalities. Education is a medium- to long-term endeavor to achieve results. But it needs to be a continuous, serious, and agreed-upon policy, and Ceará has demonstrated this over the past 10 years, since the creation of the PAIC program here in the State," he emphasized.
