71% of companies in Sergipe survive their first two years of operation.

“Starting a new business is a task that always involves risks. In recent years, we have noticed that people are increasingly seeking to be prepared for this moment, thus reducing the mistakes made in managing companies. It is also important to highlight the emergence of public policies that have facilitated the maintenance of these ventures, such as the General Law for Micro and Small Businesses, the implementation of the Individual Microentrepreneur program, and the expansion of the revenue limits of the Simples Nacional (Simplified National Tax System),” emphasizes the superintendent of Sebrae in Sergipe, Lauro Vasconcelos.

71% of companies in Sergipe survive their first two years of operation.

Wellington Amarante, from the Sebrae News Agency - Of every 100 companies created in Sergipe, 71 survive the first two years of activity. This information comes from the study 'Survival of Companies', released by Sebrae this Wednesday, which is based on the most recent data available from the Federal Revenue Service. The survey considers businesses created in 2007. The percentage obtained in the state is similar to that verified in the Northeast region, but still below the national average, which is 76%.

The research also shows that the survival rate in Sergipe has been growing over the last few years. In the last two surveys conducted by Sebrae, considering companies created in 2006 and 2005, the percentages reached 70% and 69%, respectively.

Sectors

Among the sectors of the economy, commerce had the highest survival rate (76%), followed by industry (70%), construction (66%), and services (63%). Sebrae's concern in evaluating the survival of companies after the first two years of their creation stems from three factors: during this period they are not yet known in the market, they do not have a client base, and, in many cases, their owners still have little experience in management.

“To achieve success in business, it is first necessary to establish a plan. Developing a good business plan, a thorough analysis of the prospective entrepreneur's financial capacity, and separating personal and business finances are fundamental steps in this process. It is important to remember that our institution offers a range of solutions geared towards companies in all sectors,” concludes the superintendent.

Micro and small enterprises (MSEs) account for 99% of all businesses in the country, representing 52% of the salaried workforce, 25% of the Gross Domestic Product, and 1% of national exports. In Sergipe, there are approximately 20,5 MSEs.
