70 post offices were robbed in AL.
Data from the Postal and Telegraph Workers' Union indicates that 70 robberies have been recorded at company branches in Alagoas from 2012 to the present. The main targets are agencies located in the interior of the state. Out of fear, many employees are requesting leave or transfers to other cities.
Alagoas247 - The president of the Postal and Telegraph Workers Union, Altanes Holanda, reports that the organization has filed a lawsuit demanding better working conditions for employees. He believes a solution would be hiring security guards to cover all post offices in Alagoas, as well as installing a metal detector similar to those found in bank branches.
But even with security measures in place, the União dos Palmares branch was robbed on the 16th by three men dressed in the uniform of a telephone company. The branch has remained closed since then. On that occasion, the robbers took approximately R$ 70.
According to the agency's press office, this type of action has become routine in Alagoas. Since the beginning of the year, postal workers have changed the way they serve customers in the interior municipalities: only one customer is allowed in at a time. The aim of the change is to avoid the chaos that usually occurs when people accumulate in the post offices.
The state-owned company reported that many agencies already have electronic monitoring or security systems; however, these measures do not prevent the actions of criminals, which is why the company maintains constant contact with both state and federal public security departments.
The postal service, however, claims that there has been a reduction in the number of incidents since last year. The incidence of robberies has reportedly decreased from three times a week to twice a month.
