Pernambuco 247 - The World Cup games in Pernambuco caused a lot of headaches, literally, for the workers who worked at the five matches held at Arena Pernambuco. According to the Extraordinary Secretariat for the World Cup (Secopa-PE), 286 of the approximately 4 workers who worked during this period required some type of medical attention. This number corresponds to almost 7% of the total number of professionals.

The highest number of medical assistance requests was recorded during the match between Costa Rica and Greece, the last game played at Arena Pernambuco, in the round of 16. On that occasion, 86 workers received medical attention. Among the most common problems were headaches and body aches. The executive secretary of Health Surveillance, Eronildo Felisberto, said he believes that the high number of assistance requests is due to the accumulation of work in a relatively short period of time, in addition to the tension caused by the need to provide services with a high standard of care.

The most serious incident, however, occurred during the second match held at Arena Pernambuco, when several workers were diagnosed with food poisoning. "There were no further reports of food poisoning. There was extreme cooperation from the local committee, and that was good for everyone," Felisberto told Uol.
