The leaders of the Democrats (DEM) do not accept the idea of giving up ACM Neto's candidacy for Governor of Bahia in 2014. The young mayor of Salvador leads all the opinion polls conducted so far, but assures that there is no possibility whatsoever of him entering the race to succeed Jaques Wagner (PT).

The Democratic candidate's campaign is also being pressured by Senator Aécio Neves from Minas Gerais, who is a pre-candidate for president of the Republic, according to information from journalist Felipe Patury on the Época website.

For the DEM party, this represents a concrete hope of electing a governor in the country's fourth-largest electoral college. And for Aécio Neves, it's a strong platform in the state that gave the most votes to former president Lula and president Dilma Rousseff in the last elections. But for now, as mentioned above, ACM Neto remains adamant and says he will maintain his commitment to the people of Salvador as mayor.

But there are also those who directly benefit from the Democrat's refusal. After ACM, Geddel Vieira Lima, from the PMDB party, is the best placed in the polls. And the former minister also has the commitment from the DEM party to reciprocate his support in the second round of the 2012 Salvador mayoral race.

In short, ACM will play a decisive role in Wagner's succession, whether he is a candidate or not.
