200 bank branches close this Tuesday.
The Alagoas Bank Workers Union predicts the closure of 200 branches in the state, this Tuesday (29), and the participation of more than two thousand bank workers in the nationwide strike; the category wants a 12,5% readjustment.
Alagoas247 - More than 200 bank branches in Alagoas will be closed to the public from this Tuesday (30). This is because the approximately 2.800 bank workers in Alagoas have joined the category's strike, which is taking place nationwide and covers 18 other states in the country. Due to the strike, only the self-service area will be in operation, according to the president of the Alagoas Bank Workers Union, Jairo França.
To avoid further disruption for bank users, the representative of the sector is asking people to pay bills with upcoming due dates in advance, as there is no end in sight for the strike.
This Tuesday, bank employees will be concentrated in branches across the capital with the aim of informing and drawing the public's attention to the strike. "The bankers prefer to gamble on the exhaustion of the bank employees, and we are the ones who suffer the pressure from the public. Initially, we ask that people bring forward their payments because the branches will not be open from tomorrow," he emphasized.
Among the demands of the category is a 12,5% salary readjustment. During negotiations already held with the National Federation of Banks (Fenaban), a 7,35% increase was offered, a proposal that was not accepted by the bank employees. No meeting has yet been scheduled for further negotiations.
"The ATMs will be working for withdrawals and deposits, at least on this first day of the strike. The details of the strike will be defined in an assembly that will take place tonight," said Jairo França.
In addition to salary issues, employees of public and private banks are also demanding improvements in areas such as health and safety, as well as more jobs and an end to workplace harassment.
