Vinícius Jr. and 3 other Real Madrid players diagnosed with Covid-19.

Several Real Madrid players tested positive for coronavirus earlier this month. Rival Barcelona is also dealing with a Covid-19 outbreak within its squad.

MADRID (Reuters) - Real Madrid's quartet Thibaut Courtois, Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga and Vinícius Jr. have been diagnosed with Covid-19, the club said in a statement on Wednesday (29).

The Spanish league is on a short winter break since Real Madrid's last match on December 22nd. The league leaders return to action on January 2nd away to Getafe.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti's team has 46 points in 19 games, eight more than second-placed Sevilla, who have one more game to play.

Several Real Madrid players tested positive for coronavirus earlier this month, including Luka Modric, Rodrygo, Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale, Marcelo, Andriy Lunin, Isco and David Alaba.

Rival Barcelona are also dealing with a Covid-19 outbreak in the squad, and Ousmane Dembélé, Samuel Umtiti and Gavi are expected to miss Sunday's trip to face Real Mallorca.

Clément Lenglet, Dani Alves, Jordi Alba and Alejandro Balde also tested positive for Covid this week.

Sevilla has three players who tested positive in its squad, but said they are asymptomatic and isolating at home. Two players had already been diagnosed during the Christmas period, the club added.
