247 Italian artistic swimmer Linda Cerruti shared on Instagram A photo showing her eight medals (six silver and two bronze) won at the European Aquatics Championships, held this month in Rome, the capital of Italy, prompted sexist comments.

"The least I can do, and the only thing I can do, is denounce these comments, a reflection of a society that is still very sexist and very different from the one in which I would one day like to have my children," she stated.

According to the newspaper The State of S.PauloThe athlete highlighted that the photo shows her "in an artistic pose, typical of my sport, upside down, along with the eight medals I won in what was the best European championship of my career."

Internet users made sexist posts. "Nice medals, but the space between medals 4 and 5 isn't bad either," wrote one Instagram profile. "Is this medal holder for sale?" asked another account.

The athlete reacted. "After more than 20 years of training and sacrifice, it is nothing short of shameful and deeply hurts my heart to read this horde of people making jokes that sexualize my body. Is a butt and two legs really what matters, the main topic to be discussed?", she questioned.
