Lula lends his support to Brazil's bid to host the Women's World Cup.
The president received the FIFA inspection delegation at the Planalto Palace. The delegation, led by New Zealander Sarai Bareman, will also visit Salvador and Pernambuco.
By Agência Brasil - The FIFA delegation that is inspecting Brazil as part of the country's bid to host the 2027 Women's World Cup was in Brasília this Wednesday (21). And, as part of the agenda in the Federal Capital, the representatives of the world's highest football authority met with the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, at the Palácio do Planalto.
After the meeting, President Lula posted a message on his social media expressing his confidence that Brazil will be chosen to host the mega sporting event: “I am certain that our country, due to its football tradition and the infrastructure of stadiums already built, has the full capacity to host this event, at a time of growth for women's football in Brazil and the world. It will be a moment of great visibility to stimulate women's football.”
The president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Ednaldo Rodrigues, said that the support of the Federal Government is fundamental to the success of the Brazilian candidacy: "This support from the Federal Government is very important for us to hold the best FIFA Women's World Cup in history in 2027."
Last Tuesday (20) the delegation was in the city of Rio de Janeiro, where they visited the Maracanã stadium, as well as training centers for teams and referees, hotels and press center. The next stop for the delegation led by FIFA's chief director of women's football, New Zealander Sarai Bareman, is Salvador, on Thursday (22), before going to Pernambuco on Friday (23).
Brazil is competing for the privilege of hosting the 2027 Women's World Cup against two other joint bids: the United States/Mexico and Belgium/Germany/Netherlands. The host of the next Women's World Cup will be announced on May 17th.
