Futsal player says he was abandoned by other Brazilians in Kiev: 'I went to take a shower and when I came back, there was nobody there'
Shakhtar Donetsk players and their families boarded a train bound for Romania following the Russian military action in Ukraine.
247 - Futsal player Matheus Ramires stated that he was left behind by the other athletes at the same hotel where they were staying in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. Shakhtar Donetsk players and their families took a train to Romania, after the Russian military action on Ukrainian territory, which began last Thursday (24).
"After lunch, we went to take a shower in our rooms because it was calmer. I spoke with my family, and when I returned, the Brazilian soccer players were no longer there. They decided to leave, and it's good that they are okay. It seems they are on a train with their children. We know their situation and hope they reach the border so they can enter the country they are going to. But we are here, still at the hotel, and waiting," he revealed. interview with Globo News.
The athlete participated in a video released on social media by the players in which they ask the Brazilian Embassy for help to leave Ukraine after the start of the conflicts. "The Embassy sends several updates every 10 or 15 minutes. We are under a curfew from 17 pm until Monday, decreed by the Ukrainian president. We had been talking until recently because everyone was together in the hotel bunker. When we went out to shower, they simply gathered their families. I don't know if they received some exclusive news, because you know they are famous people, and they simply left. We are happy for them, there's no problem at all, but it was something inexplicable," he added.
The player said that the Embassy informed them about the possibility of providing a train for them to leave the city, but the initial assessment was to remain in Ukraine. "The Brazilians went to the front of the hotel. In fact, one of the players witnessed this and said that there's no way to leave. The sounds of gunfire, bullets, and bombs made it impossible to get out. We're far away. When things calmed down, I think they looked around; they have cars here in the garage, they got the cars with their families and went to the train. Of course, it was much faster, I believe. But we had been talking, making decisions. In the video they posted, I was there, just watch it. We always talked about leaving together, deciding together, we met yesterday. But it was all very fast. They simply left," he said.
