Flamengo is a finalist in the Libertadores Cup.
Even under pressure and with a player sent off, Flamengo held on for a draw against Racing and secured their place in the final in Lima.
247 - Flamengo showed strength and determination on Wednesday night (29) by drawing 0-0 with Racing, in Avellaneda, and securing their place in the final of the Copa Libertadores de América. Even with one player less for a good part of the second half, the Rubro-Negro knew how to manage the Argentine pressure and guaranteed the result they needed to advance to the continental final.
The away draw secured Flamengo's qualification, as the team from Gávea had won the first leg 1-0 at the Maracanã, according to a report by Agência Brasil. With this result, the team managed by Filipe Luís awaits the winner of the other semi-final, between Palmeiras and LDU, to find out their opponent in the grand final scheduled for November 29th in Lima, Peru.
A history of Flamengo's glories
This will be the fifth time Flamengo has competed in a Libertadores final. The club has already lifted the trophy three times — 1981, 2019 and 2022 — and is trying to extend its dominance on the continent. Their journey so far has been marked by consistent performances and a squad that, even under pressure, maintains its competitive standard.
Goalkeepers shine in balanced duel.
The first half was lively and full of good chances for both sides. Just 11 minutes in, goalkeeper Rossi saved Flamengo by deflecting a header from Conechny. Shortly after, Racing's Cambeses responded with a great save from a Varela shot, following a move initiated by Arrascaeta.
The highlight, however, came in the 33rd minute, when Cambeses made a spectacular save with his face after a powerful shot from Arrascaeta, who had dribbled past two defenders. The game remained balanced until halftime, with Flamengo showing defensive solidity against the Argentine team's aerial attacks.
The sending-off changes the game.
In the second half, the game's landscape changed with Plata's expulsion in the 10th minute for retaliating against a provocation from Rojo. With one player less, Filipe Luís reorganized the team, reinforcing the defensive system and leaving Bruno Henrique isolated in attack.
Racing took control of the game, but found themselves facing a formidable opponent in Rossi, who delivered a decisive performance. The Argentinian goalkeeper made crucial saves, including a dangerous header from Adrián Martínez and a close-range shot from Vietto in stoppage time.
With composure and coolness, Rossi secured the draw that sealed Flamengo's place in the Libertadores final, reaffirming the club's tradition and strength in South American competitions.
