Former Chelsea player rescued alive from rubble after earthquake in Türkiye.
The athlete had been missing since the first, and largest, earthquake struck Turkey.
Reuters - Ghanaian player Christian Atsu was found alive after being buried during the earthquake that hit Turkey on Monday (6). The information was confirmed by the vice-president of Hatayspor, the club where Atsu plays.
The athlete was reported missing in Hatay province, Turkey, after the 7,8 magnitude earthquake that brought down thousands of buildings and killed more than 5.000 people by Tuesday morning (7) in Turkey and Syria.
"Christian Atsu was pulled out injured. Our sporting director, Taner Savut, is unfortunately still under the rubble," club vice-president Mustafa Ozak told a Turkish radio station.
Atsu played in the Premier League for Newcastle United and Everton, on loan from Chelsea, and joined Hatayspor in September 2022. The last time the player was selected to play for the Ghana national team was in 2019.
Ozat told another local news outlet that several players and officials have already been rescued from the rubble.
