Handle - Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic may be detained next Saturday (15), when he will be questioned by immigration officials in Melbourne, Australia.

According to ABC News, the athlete will be able to move freely throughout the country until 8:00 AM (local time), when the interrogation will begin. Following that, Djokovic will be escorted by Border Force agents to his lawyers' office to work on his case.

According to the news outlet, the Serbian man's detention period is expected to begin at 10:00 AM and end at 2:00 PM. He will be accompanied by border authority officials and his representatives.

On Sunday (16), one day before the start of the Australian Open, Djokovic is expected to return to his lawyers' office around 9 am for a new hearing.

The Serbian player's lawyers have stated that they will contest the reasons given by the Australian Immigration Minister, Alex Hawke, for canceling Djokovic's entry visa. Nick Wood, one of the tennis player's representatives, declared that the politician's decision was "patently irrational."

The case of the Serbian tennis player was transferred by Judge Anthony Kelly to the Federal Court of Australia, but the move was not approved by Djokovic's lawyers, as it could further delay the process.

Djokovic had his entry visa cancelled for the second time by the Australian government, but a judge suspended the Serbian player's expulsion. At the time, Hawke stated that his decision was made for "health and public order reasons".

The athlete's main objective is to compete in the Australian Open, but his presence in the tournament is not yet guaranteed. Djokovic has been in Melbourne since the 5th and wants to go for his 21st Grand Slam trophy. (ANSA)
