TOKYO (Reuters) Japan staged a second-half comeback to defeat Brazil 3-2 in a sold-out friendly match at Tokyo Stadium on Tuesday, securing their first victory over the Brazilian national team in 14 encounters.

Brazil opened up a 2-0 lead before halftime with goals from Paulo Henrique and Gabriel Martinelli, but the hosts capitalized on Brazilian defensive errors before a late header from Ayase Ueda sealed the Japanese victory.

Takumi Minamino reduced the deficit seven minutes into the second half after a misplaced pass by Fabrício Bruno allowed the striker to score from inside the penalty area.

Nine minutes later, Fabrício Bruno's night took a turn for the worse when, while trying to clear the ball, he deflected it into his own net to tie the game.

With the home crowd in full force, Japan pressed for the winning goal. Junya Ito was responsible for the decisive moment, taking a precise corner kick in the 26th minute, which Ueda headed powerfully after beating defender Lucas Beraldo in the challenge for the ball.
