247 - Lawyer Wadih Damous, former president of the OAB (Brazilian Bar Association) of Rio de Janeiro, was part of the Transition Cabinet and was nominated to coordinate the National Consumer System of the Ministry of Justice in the future Lula government. He participated in the program "Giro das Onze" on TV 247.

In the interview, Damous defended what he called the "de-Lava Jato-ization" and "de-Bolsonarization" of public security institutions.

"The issue is to reframe the Federal Police as a police force of the democratic rule of law, to de-Lava Jato what needs to be done within the Federal Police, and to de-Bolsonaro where necessary," he stressed.

The lawyer stated that he met with employees of ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) and one of the demands of the group is the separation of the agency from the military, in other words, the demilitarization of Brazilian intelligence.

"It would be an important step towards efficient, state-run intelligence, something we don't have," he said.

Regarding the coup attempts involving the occupation of military barracks, Damous said that all those responsible must be held accountable.

"All of this is being monitored. These people are being identified. They will all be duly prosecuted; all those involved in coup movements will not escape, and this is not persecution. This is called upholding the law. If the new government does not do this, it can be accused of malfeasance," he emphasized.

When asked about statements from campers claiming that Jair Bolsonaro would invoke Article 142 of the Constitution to prevent the inauguration of the president-elect, Damous said that "you can't mess around with the far right, but they are all being monitored."

"This story about article 142 is nonsense. On January 1st, President Lula takes office and we will begin to govern to change Brazil and transform Brazil into a habitable country. For delinquency, the law," he said.
