"I lived to see the market celebrate Lula's victory," says Paulo Nogueira Batista Júnior.

The economist said that the reaction to Henrique Meirelles' support for Lula does not mean abandoning developmentalist ideas.

247 - Economist Paulo Nogueira Batista Júnior stated, in an interview with journalist Leonardo Attuch, editor of TV 247, that the support of Henrique Meirelles, former president of the Central Bank, for former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is quite positive in the current context. “Meirelles' support is important and doesn't surprise me,” he said. “I lived to see a developmentalist Meirelles. But I fear that a super broad front could introduce Trojan horses into the government,” he added.

On the day Meirelles announced this support, Monday the 19th, Brazilian assets registered a strong appreciation. “I lived to see the market celebrating a possible victory for Lula. It’s a combination of a moderate Lula and a reckless Bolsonaro,” he stated. Paulo Nogueira also affirmed that Lula should not commit to the spending cap. “It’s very important that Lula doesn’t accept vetoes,” he pointed out.

With the formation of this super-broad front, he stated that Lula's candidacy has become a national salvation. “Lula will put a politician in the Finance Ministry and an economist in Planning. Perhaps a businessman in Industry and Commerce. Furthermore, he may appoint two people to positions in the Central Bank,” he said. “Brazil and Lula will make an enormous difference. Lula can be a mediator in the Ukrainian issue. I hope the Lula wave reaches São Paulo as well, with Fernando Haddad's victory.”

In the interview, he also defended the resumption of public works, with preference given to national construction companies. "It's fundamental to rescue Brazilian construction companies, but the relationship with these companies must be more careful," he stated.
