"Will there be trouble at Bolsonaro's prison? Not at all, nobody even talks about Braga Netto anymore," says Kakay.
A legal expert stated that the former president is isolated, that there will be no popular reaction to his arrest, and advocated for holding politicians and financiers accountable.
247 - In interview with the program Garden of TruthOn TV 247, jurist Antônio Carlos de Almeida Castro, known as Kakay, stated that Jair Bolsonaro should be imprisoned by the end of 2025 and that there will be no popular outcry in the face of this outcome. According to him, the judicial process will follow its normal course without setbacks, and figures like General Braga Netto, once convicted, will simply disappear from the political scene.
“I think that by the end of the year, they will all be convicted and imprisoned,” said Kakay, commenting on the progress of the criminal proceedings stemming from the attempted coup d'état on January 8, 2023. According to him, “when the judgment becomes final, [Braga Netto] will go to Papuda or Bangu prison. That's how it works. Nobody will hear from him anymore.”
"No one came to greet Bolsonaro."
Kakay recounted a recent episode that, according to his analysis, reinforces the erosion of Bolsonaro's image. "I was having lunch at a restaurant today, and Bolsonaro came in with his wife and two or three bodyguards. When he left, no one stood up to greet him. Not a single person. Eight people asked to take a picture with me. Nobody approached him. When it was time to leave, he left alone," he said.
According to the jurist, the lack of popular support in this type of situation reflects a reality: "politics is extremely cruel" to those who lose their influence. He believes that, when Bolsonaro's conviction is confirmed, there will be institutional normality. "They say: 'there will be a social upheaval'. What social upheaval? It's the institutions functioning," he said ironically.
Incomplete punishments and post-prison retribution
Kakay also expressed concern about the lack of accountability for others involved in the coup attempts, besides Bolsonaro. “The politicians and financiers are still missing. Nothing justifies the claim that, based on what they said, at least 18 or 20 politicians would be indicted. They weren't. They said there would be major financiers indicted. They weren't either.”
Despite this, he argues that the demands should come at the right time: "The day after he is arrested will be the time for us, who have the freedom to speak, to start demanding answers: why not the politicians? Why not the financiers?"
Against amnesties and for peace with justice.
In rebutting speeches calling for amnesty or pardon even before conviction, Kakay was emphatic. “At a time when the Supreme Court is still discussing the case, Mr. Jair Bolsonaro hasn't even been convicted yet, and they're already asking for pardon and amnesty. This disrespects democracy, Brazil's recent history, the judiciary, and the Brazilian people.”
According to the legal expert, national peace will only be possible with the complete closure of the criminal proceedings related to the attempted coup. "The country will only be pacified with the end of these criminal proceedings, with the conviction of those who need to be convicted so that we can turn the page," he concluded. Watch:
