Ricardo Cappelli: "Bolsonaro will be arrested and life will go on as normal."
A congressman tells TV 247 that the country is ready to overcome Bolsonaro's policies: "The next day, everyone will wake up, go to work, and cheer for their team."
247 - In interview with the program Brazil NowIn an interview with TV 247, the former interim Chief Minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) of the Presidency of the Republic, Ricardo Cappelli (PSB-DF), stated that Jair Bolsonaro's arrest is only a matter of time and that the country will know how to move forward without ruptures. "Bolsonaro will be arrested and, the next day, everyone will wake up normally, take a shower, go to work, and at night they'll tune in to football to cheer for their team," declared the congressman. The statement was made in the context of the launch of his book. January 8th, which Brazil didn't see., in which he recounts the behind-the-scenes events of the federal intervention in public security in the Federal District shortly after the coup attempts of 2023. “The book is a historical record, but also a reflection on crisis management and the relationship between civilians and the military. I tried to be as factual as possible,” he explained.
Cappelli did not hold back in his criticism of the Bolsonaro clan. “In my opinion, Eduardo Bolsonaro should be in jail. He acts like a criminal. Anyone who threatens the Federal Police is a bandit,” he declared. The former minister argued that both Jair and Eduardo Bolsonaro should face criminal charges: “They are conspiring against Brazil. This is unacceptable.”
He also criticized the stance of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who stated that there is ideological interference in Brazilian sovereignty: "What Trump is doing is trying to pressure the Brazilian Judiciary for ideological reasons, not economic or commercial ones," he accused.
Contrary to the idea that punishing the coup plotters could generate instability, Cappelli defended the actions of the Supreme Federal Court, which, according to him, is playing an unprecedented role in national history. "For the first time, a coup conspiracy involving civilians and the military is being judged. This has never happened before. It is fundamental to turn this page," he declared.
Cappelli, a pre-candidate for governor of the Federal District for the PSB party, said that his experience during the January 2023 crisis was crucial in deepening his relationship with the federal capital, where he has lived for over 20 years. Since then, he has periodically lived in satellite cities of the Federal District, using public transportation and interacting with residents. "It's a way to understand firsthand the real challenges faced by the population. It has been an extraordinary experience," he said.
Regarding the national electoral scenario, Cappelli expressed optimism about Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's reelection: “President Lula is doing a great job. He is active, close to the people. I have full confidence that he will be re-elected for a fourth term,” he concluded. Watch:
