247 - In an interview with the program Boa Noite 247, jurist and professor Pedro Serrano harshly criticized the actions of the Bolsonaro family and their allies abroad, especially Donald Trump's interference in Brazilian politics. Serrano emphatically defended the need for legislation that would allow for the loss of citizenship for Brazilians who threaten national sovereignty. "Those who betray the homeland should lose their citizenship," he stated.

According to him, the attempt to shield Jair Bolsonaro from legal action in Brazil, based on international pressure exerted by Trump and allies like Steve Bannon, constitutes "an act of treason against the nation." He went further: "Brazilians cannot act with such disloyalty to their own people and their own country. It has to be a loss of citizenship with removal from national territory. He shouldn't be allowed to visit the country anymore, he shouldn't be here."

Serrano refuted the claim that Bolsonaro is being wronged: “Bolsonaro hasn't been convicted of anything. What Trump wants is for Bolsonaro, like any Brazilian, not to be held accountable for his actions. That's destroying the Constitution. The Bolsonaro family's behavior is aristocratic; they don't want to submit to the law of the common people.” According to him, the attempt at institutional sabotage promoted by these groups should lead to the revocation of mandates, loss of political rights, and even prohibition of residency in the national territory.

The interview also addressed the economic and symbolic impact of Eduardo Bolsonaro's actions in the United States, which, according to Serrano, generate "incalculable damage" to the country. The jurist pointed out the possibility that the congressman's conduct constitutes criminal association and a threat to the jurisdiction of the Supreme Federal Court. "This could lead to preventive detention and, for those abroad, the issuance of an international red alert," he argued.

Regarding Trump's influence, Serrano was emphatic: “Trump is toxic to his own people, to his country, and to the world. There is no way to maintain trustworthy relations with a country that elected someone like that. The United States is no longer functionally a democracy, as Paul Krugman said.” According to the jurist, Brazil should take advantage of the crisis to distance itself from the US and strengthen relations with China and other reliable trading partners.

The interview concluded with a harsh critique of the complicity of sectors of the National Congress with the coup attempts: “Congress should have the dignity to approve measures that prevent these betrayals. We can no longer relinquish the right to prosecute those who commit crimes against Brazil.” Watch:
