247 - During an interview on the program good night 247In his interview, geopolitical analyst Thomas de Toledo discussed the war in Ukraine, the unfolding negotiations between the United States and Russia, and how the Brazilian media has covered the conflict. According to him, "Russia sees time as its greatest ally," as its strategy of territorial expansion and diplomatic strengthening benefits Moscow.

Toledo explained that, since the beginning of the war, Russia sought an agreement, but now its demands have changed: "Russia always wanted peace, but now it wants to consolidate its territorial gains." The analyst highlighted that Moscow intends to secure recognition of Crimea, Donetsk, Lugansk, and other regions as part of its territory. "This would leave Ukraine with a small coastal strip and practically surrounded," he stated.

The analyst also criticized the stance of the Brazilian press, which, in his view, replicates Western narratives without questioning. "The Brazilian media is subservient. At the beginning of the war, 'O Estado de S. Paulo' published a report about animals dying in a zoo in Ukraine because of Russia. That was pathetic," he commented. For him, Russophobia is deeply rooted in the West and reflects a historical prejudice against Slavic peoples.

Regarding the future of the war, Toledo stated that Ukraine is in an unfavorable position: "The Ukrainian army is exhausted. Zelensky has lost domestic support and depends exclusively on the European Union and the United Kingdom." According to him, Ukraine may only be informed of the terms of a possible agreement between Putin and Donald Trump. "Ukraine will have nothing to negotiate, it will only receive the decisions," he added.

The analyst also addressed the influence of the United States on global politics, especially in Latin America. He highlighted the role of... National Endowment for Democracy (NED), an organization funded by the U.S. Congress that supports opposition movements in various countries. "They say the Venezuelan opposition is funded by the United States. This is not a conspiracy theory, it's a documented fact," he declared. Toledo criticized the view of part of the Brazilian elite, who consider themselves part of the West. "Brazil will never be accepted into the Western club. For them, we are just Latin Americans, regardless of the European ancestry of some Brazilians." He quoted the thinker Samuel Huntington, author of The Clash of CivilizationsTo explain Brazil's position in the global context, Huntington said: "Brazil has two options: either it becomes a leader in Latin America or it will be a vassal of the West."

Finally, Toledo commented on his own ancestry and how Brazilian identity is viewed abroad. "I discovered that I am a typical mixed-race Brazilian: Slavic, Nordic, Italian, German, Indigenous, and African. But in the United States, we will all be seen as Latinos," he stated. For him, it is essential that Brazil understands its role in multipolarity and stops reproducing a vision dependent on American interests.

At the end of the interview, the analyst reaffirmed his critical stance on the prevailing discourse in the press. "My criticism is not pro-Russia, it's against the narrative being sold by the United States about this war," he concluded. Watch:
