"We are modernizing the postal service so that privatization will never be considered again," says Fabiano Silva Santos.
The company is betting on expanding its logistics, launching its own marketplace, and diversifying its services to consolidate its market position.
247 - The president of the Brazilian postal service, Fabiano Silva dos Santos, stated in an interview with TV 247 that the state-owned company is undergoing a modernization process to ensure its sustainability and avoid any future possibility of privatization. According to him, the company was handed over in a state of disrepair and worker demotivation, but is now going through a recovery process.
“When we took over the Post Office, the company was about to be privatized. One of President Lula's first decisions was to reverse the privatization,” stated Silva dos Santos. According to him, the previous administration prepared the state-owned company for sale, which resulted in a lack of investment and the dismantling of the workforce. “The current state of the Post Office is a consequence of the neglect by past governments,” he said.
The new management is betting on diversification strategies to consolidate the Post Office as the largest logistics operator in the country. "We are modernizing the Post Office so that privatization will never be considered again. We will position ourselves as the largest logistics player in Brazil," he emphasized.
New investments and expansion of services
One of the main initiatives is the creation of its own marketplace to face competition with large companies in the sector. “E-commerce is very important. We work for several marketplaces and these companies are creating their own logistics. We need to diversify our revenue and our operations,” he explained.
He also highlighted the importance of expanding the postal service's logistics to strategic sectors. “Today we deliver medicines, diapers, milk, and educational supplies to people's homes. We won a bid from the São Paulo state government for all educational logistics. This strengthens the postal service as a major logistics company.”
Another focus is encouraging small entrepreneurs. “We need to bring small entrepreneurs into the postal service. The marketplace will give visibility to these businesses, guaranteeing an efficient sales and delivery channel,” he stated. To this end, a partnership was established with Sebrae and Apex-Brasil to encourage exports.
Improved infrastructure and delivery security.
Silva dos Santos also addressed the difficulties of delivery in some peripheral regions, emphasizing that the Post Office is seeking solutions to improve distribution. “Previously, these areas were seen as high-risk. We see them as regions where the population lives and needs to be served with dignity. We created the Correios Comunidade program and expanded collection and delivery points.”
Regarding the security of goods, he highlighted the partnership with state and federal police to combat theft and the strengthening of escort and tracking solutions.
Financial impact and sustainability
The president also spoke about the financial impact of the changes. “We are investing in technology and infrastructure to ensure the company's sustainability. To this end, we are seeking long-term financing from the NDB (BRICS Bank), with reduced rates and a focus on profitability and environmental sustainability,” he said.
Digitization is also on the radar. “Only 25% of purchases in Brazil are made online. This market has significant potential for growth, and the postal service must be prepared. We will incorporate payment methods and insurance integrated into the marketplace.”
Valuing workers
Silva dos Santos emphasized that the recovery of the Post Office also depends on valuing its workers. “We gave back to the workers what they lost under the previous government. The new collective agreement guaranteed rights that had been taken away, such as extending maternity leave to six months and benefits for employees with children with disabilities.”
He also highlighted inclusion policies and the fight against harassment. “We implemented a diversity and anti-harassment policy, with goals for the inclusion of women in leadership positions. The recent selection process also established 30% of the vacancies for Black people.”
Outlook for the future
Looking ahead, the president envisions a more modern and efficient postal service. “We are implementing a new business model, and 2025 will be a decisive year. We want to transform the postal service into the largest logistics company in Brazil, offering quality services and expanding our market presence.”
The modernization of the state-owned company includes new service models, the expansion of the marketplace, strategic partnerships, and the adoption of sustainable solutions. "We will invest in efficiency and the expansion of services to ensure a Correios (Brazilian postal service) that is increasingly strong and essential for the country," he concluded. Watch:
