247 - Jurist and professor of Constitutional Law Flávio de Leão Bastos stated that Eduardo Bolsonaro's actions, coordinating with the United States government to impose sanctions against Brazilian authorities, such as Minister Alexandre de Moraes, constitute an act of treason against the nation, comparable only to that of Joaquim Silvério dos Reis, the informer of the Minas Gerais Conspiracy.

"Since Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, Tiradentes, I wouldn't have imagined seeing another traitor to our country like Eduardo Bolsonaro and Jair Bolsonaro," Flávio stated during an interview on the program. Brazil Now"Silvério dos Reis surrendered Brazil in exchange for the forgiveness of his personal debts. Eduardo is doing the same, surrendering national sovereignty to save his own family," he added, speaking to TV 247.

Flávio criticized the misuse of the Magnitsky Act — originally created to punish torturers and genociders — now applied against Brazilian judicial authorities. "It's an attack on Brazil's sovereignty. It's the biggest attack on our Republic in the last 200 years," he denounced.

According to the legal expert, the pressure exerted by former President Donald Trump to halt the legal proceedings against Jair Bolsonaro constitutes direct interference in a branch of government and threatens the independence of the Brazilian judiciary. "It's not a military attack, but it is a frontal attack on our democratic system," he stated.

Flávio also highlighted Brazil's geopolitical role in this conflict, noting that the country is at the center of global economic interests, with vast reserves of rare earth elements and potable water. He pointed out that the US offensive also has economic and geostrategic motivations, such as the growth of the BRICS and the weakening of the dollar's hegemony.

“The international far-right is well-organized. Brazil is just the first step. Trump wants to align Latin America with his ideological and economic interests. Sanctions are already being planned against other progressive countries, such as Colombia,” he warned.

Regarding Eduardo Bolsonaro, the jurist stated that currently "any punishment is impossible" for him while he is outside the country. "The American government, under Trump, has adopted him as an ally. And this shows that we are facing an international agreement of the far-right, which threatens democracies worldwide," he emphasized.

According to Flávio, the Brazilian response should include legal action in the United States, appeals to international courts, and a firm defense of sovereignty.

"Sovereignty is not negotiable. That is a non-negotiable line. And Brazil needs to react with dignity, not only to protect its institutions, but to defend its people," he concluded.
