"Billionaires, like Elon Musk, are the great enemies of democracy," says Brian Mier.
"They no longer need democracy. They support people like Trump and Bolsonaro because they don't want democracy," the journalist points out.
247 - In an interview with TV 247, American journalist Brian Mier analyzed the changes that are expected to occur on Twitter after the platform's acquisition by South African billionaire Elon Musk. Mier doesn't believe the billionaire will fulfill his promise to guarantee absolute freedom of expression, especially since he is a billionaire who will prioritize his peers.
“Billionaires, like Elon Musk, are the great enemies of democracy. The existence of billionaires who have this kind of influence in the world is a very serious problem for capitalism, because they no longer need democracy. They support people like Trump and Bolsonaro because they don't want democracy. He will only give it to the Nazis. He already censors people on the left through the manipulation of algorithms: whoever has more money has more voice on Twitter,” he clarifies.
According to the journalist, Musk will act like a dictator on Twitter. “It’s not a platform for free expression. An example of this is that half of Bolsonaro’s followers on the platform are purchased ‘bots.’ This gives the impression that the person has more authority to speak, when it’s only money that speaks,” he emphasizes.
Mier adds that Twitter “is not a public space for discussion among equals. It is a system that favors conservatives, and the richest are the most conservative,” he concludes.
