247 - During an appearance on TV 247, journalist Mario Vitor Santos commented on... recent criticisms by President Lula (PT) of the president of the Central Bank, Roberto Campos NetoHe stated that such an institution is "even more dangerous than the terrorists who invaded the Presidential Palace."

"I wanted to compare - and I think President Lula is making this comparison indirectly - the Central Bank to these..." Images of the attack on the Planalto Palace.

"The Central Bank is part of this type of explicit violence against the federal government elected at the polls in October. It is a battering ram, a kind of advanced force attacking the Lula government, perhaps even more dangerous than those vandals who, in a way, roamed aimlessly, causing chaotic destruction in the corridors and facilities of the Three Powers headquarters," the journalist assessed.

Mario Vitor argued that the danger posed by the Central Bank lies in the significant support the institution receives from the Brazilian press and the elite: "there was no support whatsoever; the elite did not support them, there was no international or institutional support for the terrorist attacks. But the Central Bank is even more dangerous than those people who invaded the Presidential Palace. Because those people, Campos Neto and his followers, the Central Bank's board, the Copom – which maintains these scandalous interest rates at this level – have heavy support from Brazil's hegemonic media; armies of columnists and journalists are mobilized, there is a kind of fascist-style united order."

"There is no pluralism in media opinion regarding the economy and the Central Bank; they all line up in support of Campos Neto and Bolsonaro's economic policies," he concluded.
