247 - Historian, professor, and writer João Cezar de Castro Rocha stated that the transnational advance of the far right represents an even greater challenge than the Nazism and Fascism of the last century. The statement was made during an interview on the program... Conversations with Hildegard Angel, from TV 247, broadcast this Saturday (8).
"What we face today, with the transnational advance of the far right, is a greater challenge than the Nazism and Fascism of the last century. Because Nazism and Fascism arose, above all, as violent opposition. But today, the far right of Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and Jair Bolsonaro is advancing, winning hearts and minds, especially of younger generations. Why? What is at stake? We need to understand this dilemma of the contemporary challenge, and that's what I've been trying to do," he stated.
According to Castro Rocha, what is at stake is the struggle for the narrative that shapes contemporary societies. He warned about the strategic use of fake news and conspiracy theories by far-right political leaders such as Trump, Bolsonaro, and Argentine President Javier Mili.
"There are no more projects for citizenship, such as Dilma Rousseff's 'Educating Homeland,' or JK's '50 years in 5,' or João Goulart's 'Basic Reforms,'" the professor stated. "Once you have hatred as a mechanism of social interaction, we live in the chaos we live in today," he added. Check out the full interview in the video below:
