Arthur Chioro: "On January 1st, denialism leaves and science enters."
The former minister highlighted the main problems Lula will need to face in the area of health: the pandemic, the vaccination backlog, and waiting lists for treatments.
247 - Former minister and member of Lula's (PT) government transition team in the health area, Arthur Chioro stated to TV 247 that "on January 1st, denialism will leave and science will enter," referring to the end of Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) government and Lula's return to the Presidency of the Republic.
For Chioro, the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the lag in Brazilians' vaccination status, and the long waits for healthcare are the three main problems that the new Lula administration will have to face in this area.
Furthermore, he highlighted that hunger, caused by the impoverishment of the population, has once again led to children being hospitalized.
The former minister emphasized that the transition team's job is to diagnose the health situation in Brazil: "We want to understand the contracts, the acquisition of medicines and vaccines, the state of indigenous health, the state of the Ministry of Health's hospitals in Rio de Janeiro, the contracts for doctors under the Mais Médicos program, and the medicines for the Farmácia Popular program. We want to know step by step what the situation is, including what measures need to be taken."
