"The great moral and geopolitical benchmark of our times is the Palestinian cause," says Breno Altman.

According to the journalist, BRICS fails by not adopting practical measures against Israel and misses the chance to advance in the fight against genocide in Gaza.

247 - During his participation in the program Good Morning 247In his article, journalist Breno Altman critically assessed the final declaration of the BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro, focusing particularly on the bloc's stance on the Palestinian issue. While acknowledging progress in the group's geopolitical positioning, Altman pointed out the lack of concrete action in response to the Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip.

According to the journalist, the document produced at the meeting reaffirms important principles, but does not present practical initiatives against the State of Israel. "I expected, in a moral and geopolitical sense, a more advanced and practical position regarding the State of Israel," he stated. For him, this omission represents a major flaw: "The BRICS declaration was a museum of novelties... The same old refrain about genocide, about the two states, was repeated, but no practical measures were adopted."

Altman highlighted that Iran, a BRICS member represented by its foreign minister at the meeting, was the only country in the group to publicly express dissatisfaction with the proposed two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. "I personally side with Iran and not with the other BRICS countries," he declared. According to him, the two-state solution is exhausted: "It has no chance of being implemented; there is no willingness on the part of the Zionist regime to follow this path, nor on the part of the United States."

Altman's central criticism lies in the disconnect between discourse and practice: "Even with rhetoric condemning Israel, BRICS has not adopted any sanctions, any retaliation, any concrete proposals." For him, this weakens the group's legitimacy as a counter-hegemonic force. "This is the great weakness of BRICS at this Rio de Janeiro summit. So far, no practical measures against Israel have been approved. This must be strongly criticized," he stated.

The journalist succinctly summarized his position: “The great moral and geopolitical standard of our times is the Palestinian cause.” For Altman, this should have been the central criterion for the BRICS' actions at the meeting. “And, on that point, the BRICS declaration was a weak declaration,” he concluded.
