247 - The National Consumer Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Wadih Damous, stated that the request from Lojas Americanas to enter into judicial recovery - and accepted by the courts - cannot result in the delay or cancellation of a purchase without a refund. Lojas Americanas has debts of R$ 43 billion distributed among 16 creditors.
"Judicial reorganization is not a valid argument to harm the consumer," Damous added. His position was published this Thursday (19) in Panel column.

According to the executive, the most that can happen is a negotiation for the company to have more time for delivery. "We are not going to interfere with any negotiation. But for that, we want to know from the company what mechanism it will announce to carry out this renegotiation," said Damous.
Last Tuesday (17), the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) asked Americanas to report on measures to protect consumer interests, the impact of accounting fraud on the general public, and the channels for resolving disputes.
