Return of the CPMF: Mourão defends debate on tax on financial transactions.

"I think it needs to be discussed. The president is against it, fine, he doesn't want to bring this issue to the table because of the memory of the old CPMF [a tax on financial transactions]. But we know that our tax system is a complicated system," the vice-president argued.

247 - Vice President General Hamilton Mourão argued for an "unbiased" debate on a tax on financial transactions, similar to the CPMF.

"I think it needs to be discussed. The president is against it, okay, he doesn't want to bring this issue to the table because of the memory of the old CPMF [a tax on financial transactions]. But we know that our tax system is a complicated system," he said in a teleconference held by a bank, according to [source]. report from the newspaper O Globo.

"It seems to be the great Satan of tax reform; nobody wants to hear about it. In my view, there are even several deputies and senators who defend this single tax issue, which is also defended by a number of companies here in Brazil. This issue needs to be discussed without prejudice, and the place for discussion is Congress," he added.
