SÃO PAULO (Reuters) - Payment processing company Cielo reported on Tuesday that its retail sales index (ICVA) showed its first growth since 2014 last year, advancing 2,5 percent compared to 2017.

“The 2018 result confirms the recovery trajectory of the retail sector (...) even with events that impacted the year's results, such as the truckers' strike and the World Cup,” said Gabriel Mariotto, director of intelligence at Cielo, in a press release.

In December, retail sales, according to ICVA, rose 3,3 percent compared to the same period in 2017.
