Ternium rebuts CSN and denounces fake news planted by Usiminas' competitor.
Benjamin Steinbruch's company is allegedly trying to divert attention from its obligation to sell shares.
247 - On Thursday (27), Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) launched a new attack against Ternium, a company with which it has been in a dispute for years over Usiminas. Benjamin Steinbruch's company released an announcement in Minas Gerais accusing Ternium Mexico of having been denounced at the United Nations (UN). In a statement, Ternium denounces fake news from the company and claims that CSN is trying to divert attention from the need to sell the shares it illegally holds in Usiminas.
Check out Ternium's full statement:
Ternium repudiates CSN's deplorable stance of creating fake news to divert attention from the court decision ordering the company to sell the illegally purchased shares from Usiminas. Instead of focusing on reducing its billion-dollar debt and improving its steelmaking operation in Volta Redonda, CSN spends millions of reais publishing false advertisements.
It is irresponsible of CSN to accuse Ternium of having ties to drug cartels in Mexico or responsibility for disappearances in the country's mining region. Ternium condemns any form of violence and categorically repudiates any speculation or defamation that attempts to link Ternium or its employees to violent cases of missing persons in Mexico. Ternium operates transparently, in compliance with the law, with a sense of social responsibility, and under the highest standards of governance in all its operations.
Regarding the disappearance of the Aquila community leaders, Ricardo Lagunes and Antonio Días, Mexican authorities investigated the case and arrested two suspects. Ternium actively collaborated in every way possible to contribute to the case of the missing persons and assist local authorities.
Ternium takes this situation very seriously, emphasizing that both parties maintained a relationship of open dialogue, freedom, respect, and personal appreciation with Ternium and its management. It should also be noted that neither party has ever initiated or promoted any legal action against Ternium.

Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) emphasizes that Ternium continues to treat matters of the highest importance with disrespect. By claiming that the accusations against it are fake news, the foreign company disregards the fact that the complaint was filed with the United Nations (UN) by a group of international human rights organizations, and was reported both abroad and in the Brazilian press – as confirmed by the links below.
The numerous allegations against Ternium in Mexico regarding the company's connection to cartels and the disappearance of activists, as confirmed by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), demonstrate that Usiminas employees and their families, as well as the citizens of Ipatinga and Brazilian authorities in general, deserve clarification from Ternium on such a serious matter.
