Temer admits difficulty in approving pension reform.

Michel Temer admitted that the proposed pension reform may not be approved "in its entirety"; according to him, the intention is to achieve "progress" so that a future government can conduct "a new review"; the pension reform faces resistance in the Chamber of Deputies even among parliamentarians allied with the government, for whom only a "lean" text will be possible to approve.

247 - Michel Temer stated this Monday (6) during a meeting at the Planalto Palace with leaders of government parties in the Chamber that he will continue to work for the pension reform, but noted that the proposal may not be approved "in its entirety".

According to him, the intention is to achieve "progress" so that a future government can conduct "a new review." The pension reform faces resistance in the Chamber of Deputies, even among parliamentarians allied with the government, for whom only a "streamlined" text will be possible.

"It [the pension reform] is an important, fundamental continuation, a kind of closing of the reforms we are making. I want to say that I will continue to work on it. Although you can't do everything that the pension reform proposes, perhaps we can make progress, to a certain extent, that will allow those who come later, further down the line, to carry out a new review of Social Security," the president declared.

On Monday, the leader of the PMDB party, Deputy Baleia Rossi (SP), said that the debate on pension reform needs to be restarted because, before the accusations against Temer presented by the Attorney General's Office and rejected by the Chamber of Deputies, the government had the votes to approve the reform. "The reality is that the situation today is different. The government doesn't have the votes to pass a constitutional amendment, the qualified quorum of 308 votes," stated Baleia Rossi.
