Taxi drivers protest against security measures.

Professionals went to the Pacaembu stadium because of the death of a colleague.

247 - On Monday morning, about 100 taxi drivers gathered at Praça Charles Miller, in Pacaembu, to demand more policing and security for their profession. The movement was triggered by the death of taxi driver Eduardo Alves Pereira, 37, who was shot in the head on Saturday in the South Zone of São Paulo. According to Marco Antônio Menezes, from the Use Táxi cooperative, to which the murdered driver belonged, robberies are more common in the South Zone of São Paulo, always in the early morning and during the night.

According to the police report, officers believe Pereira was the victim of a robbery-homicide. Inside the victim's car, police found a wallet containing several cards, R$ 52, and a cell phone. The crime occurred around seven o'clock on Saturday morning, when Pereira was waiting for a passenger he was taking to Congonhas Airport in the South Zone. He was approached by three men. The criminals arrived in two stolen vehicles – another taxi and a passenger car.
