"Trump's tariff hike is an opportunity for Brazil to become self-sufficient in fuel production," says Deyvid Bacelar.
The general coordinator of the Unified Federation of Oil Workers (FUP) was announced as a member of the PT's National Directorate.
247 - State leaders elected or re-elected in the last Direct Election Process (PED) of the Workers' Party (PT) were present this Saturday (23), in Brasília, at the first face-to-face meeting of the new National Directorate of the PT, at the party headquarters. The opening of the event included the participation of the vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin, and the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, who discussed the national and international political situation.
Announced as the new national leader of the PT (Workers' Party), during the plenary session of the Construindo um Novo Brasil (CNB) tendency, also held in the federal capital, on the eve of the meeting, the general coordinator of the Federação Única dos Petroleiros (FUP) (Unified Federation of Oil Workers) Deyvid Bacelar gave a speech.
Visibly emotional and still reeling from the passing of the PT's national vice-president, Everaldo Anunciação, Bacelar said: "It is an immense honor and a huge responsibility to continue contributing to our party and to the people's struggle, carrying on the path that Everaldo helped to build."
With the endorsement of President Lula, Bacelar is one of the names from Bahia indicated as a potential candidate for federal deputy in 2026.
During the National Directorate meeting, the FUP coordinator gave a speech highlighting that Trump's tariff hike is an opportunity for Brazil to make investments and achieve self-sufficiency in the oil refining sector, so as not to depend on the import of diesel and other fuels anymore.
In a speech addressed to the vice-president, Bacelar also recalled that the US president, Donald Trump, announced last Friday (22) that he had cancelled the US$19 billion investment that would have been made in renewable energies and stressed that this decision is also a unique opportunity for Brazil.
“Currently, investments in Brazil are directed only to the biofuel sector. But we know that there are other potential opportunities, especially in our Northeast region. Why not take advantage of this moment of tariff increases and cuts in US investments, which impact the global energy transition, to try to attract these international investments to our country? It will be an opportunity for the Brazilian neo-industry to advance in the production of synthetic fuels or fuels of the future beyond biofuels,” said the general coordinator of FUP.
Bacelar emphasized that his role in the National Directorate will be focused on bringing the party even closer to the working class. "I will be alongside President Edinho, Commander José Dirceu, and other comrades, reaffirming the commitment to continue building a strong, popular PT rooted in the Brazilian people," he added.
Bacelar's arrival at the National Directorate occurs at a time of political mobilization for the PT in Bahia, amidst the strengthening of his pre-campaign for federal deputy.
