247 - The Lula (PT) government announced this Tuesday (6) the increase in the income tax exemption bracket The income tax exemption for individuals (IRPF) has been raised to two minimum wages. This is the second increase in the exemption since the beginning of this administration. The exemption ceiling rose in May 2023 to R$ 2.640,00 and will now increase to R$ 2.824,00.

The last update to the table was made during the Dilma Rousseff (PT) administration. After the coup against the then-president and the takeover of power by the usurper Michel Temer (MDB), the table was frozen, which also occurred during the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) administration. In two years, this is the second time that the Lula administration has revised the exemption ceiling upwards.

"The lack of updating the tax table over so many years has meant that Brazilians have been paying more and more income tax, taking money away from families," says the Ministry of Finance.
