Reuters Petrobras will reduce diesel and gasoline prices at refineries starting Wednesday, the state-owned company announced on Tuesday, amid discussions within the government about rising fuel prices and protests by truck drivers.

According to the oil company, diesel will increase by 1,54 percent, to 2,3351 reais per liter, the first cut since May 12. Gasoline, on the other hand, will decrease by 2,08 percent, to 2,0433 reais per liter, the first reduction since May 3.

The announcement comes after truck drivers held protests on Monday in 19 states against rising fuel prices. On Tuesday, truck drivers returned to blocking highways and the port of Santos.

In July of last year, Petrobras adopted a new pricing policy that provides for almost daily changes in fuel prices, in line with the international market.
