Sicupira bought a helicopter for R$ 100 million after a R$ 20 billion fraud at Americanas.
The revelation was made by journalist Leandro Demori; the company owners officially defaulted on their creditors and filed for bankruptcy protection.
247 - Owner of Americanas alongside Jorge Paulo Lemann and Marcel Herrmann Telles, businessman Carlos Alberto Sicupira bought a helicopter for R$ 100 million amidst the company's 'accounting inconsistencies' of R$ 20 billion.
The revelation was made by journalist Leandro Demori, who points out that Sicupira chaired the Board of Directors of Americanas until 2020 and "didn't see" the scandalous financial hole in the company. "Will this asset be seized so that he can pay for the financial hole? Of course not," says Demori.
>>> Lemann, Telles, and Sicupira's default on Americanas is expected to stall credit in the economy.
Lemann, Telles, and Sicupira concealed the billion-dollar accounting fraud in the balance sheets of Lojas Americanas for years.
The three are among the richest men in Brazil, but they have already made it clear that they do not intend to put their own money into capitalizing the company. Therefore, the risk of defaulting on creditors is very real.
