Average starting salary falls for the first time in 5 years.

The average salary fell by R$79,07 in 2021, to R$1.921,19. The largest reduction occurred in the service sector (-5,16%).

Metropolis - In 2021, the average salary for formal employment contracts paid to Brazilians shrank for the first time since 2016. This information comes from data provided by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security this Monday (January 31st).

Adjusted for inflation using the National Consumer Price Index (INPC), the average real starting salary was R$ 1.921,19 last year, compared to R$ 2.000,26 in 2020. Over the year, there was a real decrease of R$ 79,07, or 3,95%.

For five years, Brazil had not recorded a decrease in the average remuneration paid to employees with formal employment contracts. The last time this happened, however, the reduction was smaller, reaching 1,4%.
