RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - Petrobras President Caio Paes de Andrade has accepted an invitation from the future governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, to join the team of the next São Paulo state government, but will continue to focus exclusively on the leadership transition he has undertaken at the company, the oil company informed the market in a statement released Tuesday.

In the document, Petrobras did not give details about how long the president is expected to remain in office. His current term runs until April 2023, but members of the transition team would prefer him to resign sooner to expedite the change of leadership.

"In the coming weeks, President Caio will remain in his current role and will not participate in the transition in São Paulo," the company said.

"As President of Petrobras, continue to give undivided attention to the change in leadership that has taken place in the company, collaborating with the other executive directors to ensure a professional, transparent transition that adheres to good governance practices."

Before taking over as head of Petrobras, Paes de Andrade was the special secretary for Debureaucratization, Management and Digital Government at the Ministry of Economy, close to Minister Paulo Guedes.

The day before, Reuters reported that Economy Minister Paulo Guedes had also been invited by Tarcísio de Freitas to join the next São Paulo state government, according to sources familiar with the matter.
