Brazilian ports break historical cargo handling record in the 3rd quarter.

Cargo volume handled in the 3rd quarter grew 6%, reaching 378,2 million tons.

247 - Cargo handling at Brazilian ports reached a historic milestone in the third quarter of 2025, consolidating the country as a benchmark in port efficiency. From July to September, 378,2 million tons were handled, representing a 6% increase compared to 2024.

According to a survey by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor), based on data from the National Agency for Waterway Transportation (Antaq), the performance is a direct result of investments in modernization and sustainability.

Minister Silvio Costa Filho highlighted that the progress is the result of management focused on efficiency and environmental responsibility. "The modernization of ports, combined with the adoption of sustainable practices, has increased port efficiency, with environmental responsibility, and expanded the performance of operations in the country," stated the minister, according to the report. Sustainability and innovation drive results.

According to the minister, the government launched the Sustainability Diagnosis, which maps the ESG actions adopted by companies in the sector. Costa Filho also informed that the ministry will present its environmental agenda during COP 30, which will be held in Belém, highlighting the strategic role of ports in meeting climate goals.

Consistent growth in 2025

In the period from January to September, the total volume handled has already reached 1,04 billion tons, a growth of 3,25% compared to the first nine months of 2024. This volume represents the highest result in the historical series.

In September, cargo movement increased by 4,84% compared to the same month of the previous year. Soybeans were the highlight, with a significant increase of 46,89%, totaling 7,9 million tons transported. Solid bulk cargo led in volume, totaling 72,8 million tons, a 4,72% increase, while containerized cargo grew by 7,12%, reaching 14,1 million tons.

Performance of public ports and private terminals

Public ports handled 43,8 million tons in September, a 3,26% increase compared to the same month in 2024. The Port of Santana (AP) stood out, with a 40,12% increase, reaching 0,4 million tons.

In private use terminals (TUPs), the growth was even more significant: 5,77% year-on-year, totaling 76,6 million tons. The Ponta Ubu Maritime Terminal (ES) led in percentage growth, with an increase of 121,1% and a movement of 1,2 million tons.
