Kelly Oliveira, reporter for Agência Brasil - Financial institutions consulted by the Ministry of Finance have reduced their forecast for the negative result of public accounts this year. The estimate for the primary deficit of the Central Government (National Treasury, Social Security and Central Bank) went from R$ 149,642 billion in July to R$ 148,171 billion in August.

The estimate is below the government's projected deficit target of R$ 159 billion. The primary result is calculated by subtracting expenses from revenues, excluding interest payments.

The data comes from the Prisma Fiscal survey, prepared by the Economic Policy Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance, based on information from the financial market.

For 2019, the financial institutions' estimate for the deficit remained at R$ 123,288 billion.

The estimated expenses for this year reached R$ 1,367 trillion, compared to R$ 1,366 trillion projected in July. Net revenues are expected to reach R$ 1,220 trillion in 2018, against R$ 1,217 trillion in the previous forecast.

For 2019, the Central Government's net revenue projection is R$ 1,304 trillion, compared to R$ 1,302 trillion projected last month. As for total expenditure, the projection is R$ 1.424 trillion, compared to R$ 1,422 trillion projected in July.

The research also presents the projection for the gross debt of the Central Government, which, according to financial institutions, should reach 76% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP – the sum of all wealth produced by the country) this year. This is the same forecast released in July. For 2019, the estimate was 78,08% of GDP, compared to 78,10% predicted last month.
