Christmas during the recession: Temer-Meirelles has a clearance sale before the holidays.

The severe economic recession caused by the policies of Michel Temer and Henrique Meirelles has placed Brazil in an unusual situation; the weak performance in Christmas sales has led retailers, both in popular markets and designer stores, to offer discounts typical of clearance sales, which have gained strength in an attempt to boost sales; the expectation of the National Confederation of Commerce (CNC) is for a 4% contraction, the second worst performance for Christmas in 15 years.

247 - The severe economic recession caused by the policies of Michel Temer and Henrique Meirelles has placed Brazil in an unusual situation. Weak Christmas sales have led retailers, both from popular markets and high-end boutiques, to offer discounts typical of clearance sales, which have gained momentum in an attempt to boost sales.

The National Confederation of Commerce (CNC) expects a 4% contraction, the second worst performance for Christmas in 15 years, surpassed only by last year's 7,1% drop.

What can be seen in the shops in the 25 de Março street area are significant discounts on many toys. This Friday, the 23rd, the day before Christmas Eve, the flow of people in the traditional popular shopping center was weak and far from Christmas 2010, which was the best year of the decade.

Discounts and promotions as bait to attract consumers are also evident in the shops of the Jardins neighborhood. At the Carmen Steffens store, a women's fashion brand, on Oscar Freire street, there is a banner with huge letters announcing discounts of up to 50% on selected items.
