247 - President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) stated that he understands the need to maintain fiscal responsibility, but stressed that this also implies "taking care of the poorest people."

“We know we have to be responsible. Not spend more than we earn. But I also know that we have to take care of the poorest people. And that is why I tell you that we are going to recover Brazil,” said Lula this Saturday (19), during a meeting with the Brazilian community at the University Institute of Lisbon, in Portugal, according to Metropolis

On Friday (18), Lula had already stated that “there is no reason to be afraid” about the fiscal policy that will be adopted in his future government. The PT member’s statements were made after the financial market reacted negatively to his statement that it is necessary to think about social responsibility, in addition to the fiscal issue.
