Show me the tax payment slip, boss!

The actresses from Globo are doing nothing more and nothing less than cheap politicking to please their tax-evading boss, who, if he evaded so much money in the United States, for example, would be in jail by now.

It was recently discovered that Globo evaded hundreds of millions of reais in taxes when acquiring the broadcasting rights for the 2002 World Cup. In 2005, the network was fined by the Federal Revenue Service and, including fines and interest, now owes more than R$ 1 billion.

The process, however, only started moving forward this year after a complaint from the blogosphere that ended up in the press and even on television. It was stalled for years because a tax office employee stole that file along with those of many other companies that paid her to "make their tax evasion assessments disappear."

Globo claims it paid the taxes owed after being audited. However, there is no known record of the payment.

In response, actresses Carol Castro, Rosamaria Murtinho, Nathália Timberg, Suzana Vieira, and Barbara Paz, from the network's prime-time soap opera, staged a protest: they posed for a photo dressed in black, demanding that the Marinho family show the payment receipt and…

What? That's not why they posed for the photo above? How could that not be? Why did they pose for that photo? How? To protest against the Supreme Court for granting defendants in the Mensalão trial the same right to appeal a conviction that Globo enjoys?

Well, that's shameful... How can they want to take away rights granted to those who pay for them? That's selective outrage! If they want the laws to be obeyed, they should start at home.

Well, the only conclusion one can draw is that these ladies are doing nothing more and nothing less than cheap politicking to please their tax-evading boss, who, if he evaded so much money in the United States, for example, would be in jail by now.

Bunch of hypocrites!
