247 – Former Central Bank president Henrique Meirelles has never been so courted by the private sector. In just one year, he has taken on positions in four private companies, in addition to presiding over the Public Olympic Council. The reason? Read the article on Veja Online:
The private equity firm KKR announced the appointment of Henrique Meirelles as a senior advisor. This is the fourth private company where the former president of the Central Bank has taken a position this year. In the public sector, he has chaired the Public Olympic Council since last June.
This body is the highest instance of the Olympic Public Authority (APO), responsible for planning the construction projects for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Behind the evident interest in the executive lies his long career at the Central Bank, where he took the reins of monetary policy and saw inflation cool down between 2003 and 2011. With good connections in the government, Meirelles also has significant business contacts. Before his government position, the executive led the global presidency of Bank of Boston.
After completing his self-imposed quarantine period until the end of 2011, Meirelles began analyzing the series of offers that poured onto his desk. So far, four companies have managed to secure his coveted services: J&F, Azul, Lazzard, and KKR.
