Lula promises more refineries and profound changes at Petrobras.

247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signaled his intention to promote profound changes in the management of Petrobras, which will be headed by Jean Paul Prates. "There were huge investments in research so that we could make this leap in quality, and what did they do? Petrobras, which was seen by us as a passport to the future for exporting refined products, is now exporting crude oil and importing gasoline and diesel from another country, paying in dollars, when our gasoline and oil are extracted in reais," he said at an event in the Planalto Palace.

"So, we came to change things. It's important for you to know that a lot will change in this country. It's important for you to know that people will be treated with decency," he added.

The halt in investments in Petrobras refineries was a consequence of Operation Lava Jato, which also resulted in a change in the state-owned company's pricing policy.
