Lula sends a message to Faria Lima, criticizes "dirty tricks" and guarantees that credit will be granted to workers responsibly.
The president also mentioned "loan sharks" interested in profiting while criticizing the financial market.
247 - President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sent a clear message to the financial market this Wednesday (12), by rebutting the pessimism of some analysts, including former members of previous governments, who warn of a supposed inflationary spiral. Lula recalled that these same critics were in charge during periods when inflation in the country exceeded 80%, questioning the credibility of their current forecasts.
Addressing the press and the market, Lula was emphatic: "Never doubt the seriousness of this government. We are not a government of adventurers." He spoke at an event in Brasília to announce measures to encourage cheap credit for workers, the "Worker's Credit" program.
Referring to the collusion between sectors of the corporate media and the financial market, he criticized what he called "dirty tricks" against his government: To the newspapers, he criticized: "loan sharks can plant stories that are dirty tricks, wanting to profit from the dollar or the Brazilian stock market, possibly. There's no explanation, people know my history."
Regarding the measures adopted this Wednesday, Lula also dismissed possible concerns about overheating the economy. "It's important to know that you shouldn't spend what you don't have. We can't take out a loan to pay off another loan, but rather use it for things that will improve our lives or solve problems," he said, in a message to the 47 million workers who could benefit from the easier access to payroll-deducted loans.
